AFJROTC Bell Ringing

Ten cadets from the Fargo Public Schools Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps volunteered at the two Salvation Army red kettles at the West Acres mall. Working in shifts, they greeted mall patrons and thanked them for their donations. Their community service helped to raise $227.36 for the Salvation Army.

School Supply Donation

Thank you to Essentia Health and United Way of Cass-Clay for the donation of more than 7,600 additional school supply items to Fargo Public Schools! The United Way School Supply Drive met its goal of providing school supplies for 6,500 local K-12 students, but due to increased demand, they did not have extra supplies to share with local schools. So, Essentia Health and United Way Cass-Clay partnered to provide 23,000 additional school supply items to local districts. School supplies were delivered to FPS on December 5.

Health, Tech & Trades Career Expo

Sophomores from FPS and other regional schools had the opportunity to find out which careers may be a good fit for them at the Health, Tech, and Trades Career Expo on Tuesday at the Fargodome. More than 3,000 students visited the expo and got a first hand look at the work in the fields of heavy machinery operation, auto mechanics, fire rescue, EMTs, construction, and many more trades.

History Club Trip

Students from North's History Club took a trip to Bismarck to experience the state's government and history firsthand. Students chose between attending a session at the North Dakota Supreme Court and touring the North Dakota Heritage Center. They all then attended a special meeting with First Lady Kjersti Armstrong, who spoke about the importance of civic engagement.

Infinite Campus

The state is transitioning all school districts from PowerSchool to Infinite Campus over the summer of 2026. Accounts that currently exist to access the PowerSchool Parent application will not be transferred into Infinite Campus. Parents/guardians will be contacted next summer with instructions on how to create their new account in Infinite Campus. The new accounts will be used to complete forms for the 2026-27 school year. Please keep an eye out for that messaging, which the District plans to send out in mid-July.

School Cancellation Process

FPS makes every effort to keep schools open each day. Our first choice will always be to remain open, but at times the weather conditions within the city merit closing. We have two school make-up days built into this year's calendar - Monday, April 6 and Friday, May 1. If weather causes the District to close, those days may turn into school days. If no school closures occur and the make-up days are not used, April 6 and May 1 will be no school days.

Board Planning Committee

In September, the school board approved a deficit budget. That means this school year’s expenses will exceed revenues. While this is not ideal, we have enough in reserves to absorb the deficit. The board is committed to a balanced budget next year. As such, the bulk of Planning Committee’s work this year has been spent discussing our budget. Read more about the planning committee's efforts to balance the budget.

Bus ID Scanning

As of Monday, all FPS students in kindergarten through grade 12 now scan their student ID card or key in their student ID number (lunch number) when boarding and exiting the bus. This update established a consistent, districtwide system that reflects our Stronger Together  theme - unifying procedures across grade levels and strengthening collaboration among schools, families, and transportation staff.

What Starts Early Sticks!

By age 15, students with a history of poor attendance in elementary school are more likely to struggle academically and socially. They tend to have lower math and literacy achievement, be enrolled in less rigorous coursework, and are more likely to exhibit behavior challenges and lower social skills. They also face a greater risk of engaging in risky behaviors such as substance use or skipping class.

Medicaid Claims

FPS will continue its participation in Medicaid Administrative Claiming - a program that helps us support students while also bringing important resources back into the District. Through this program, schools are reimbursed for certain activities that connect students to health services - such as special education supports, counseling, and other health-related needs.
