1997 Inductees

TODD BAKKEN

Todd Bakken

A 1977 graduate of North High, Todd was an accomplished member of the Spartan basketball team, earning MVP recognition during their State Championship season in 1977.  He also earned All State honors during his junior and senior years.  Todd ranked seventh in scoring at the University of North Dakota.  His degree in criminal justice has led Todd to service with the FBI.

VICKI CHEPULIS

Vicki Chepulis

A 1970 graduate of North High, Vicki earned an undergraduate degree in Sociology and Criminal Justice from NDSU.  Among the most renowned of her accomplishments has been her role in the formation of the Trollwood Performing Arts School.  This project has used the medium of creative arts and the enthusiasm of youth to build bridges among varied cultures of the world.  Vicki has been part of numerous awards that have recognized the work of TPAS.

DON HULBERT

Don Hulbert

Don served as a Physical Educator with the Fargo Public Schools from 1970-1985.  While serving as Head Boys and Girls Swimming Coach for the North Spartans, his teams claimed a dual meet record of 214-32-2, along with 5 state titles and 15 Conference championships.  He was also honored with the Coach of the Year award five times in North Dakota.  He is currently Activities Director of the Moorhead, MN Public Schools system.

BEA IHLENFELD

Bea Ihlenfeld

An Illinois native, Bea earned her undergraduate degree from Carthage College, (IL) where she became the first woman to earn a varsity letter, and was elected to the school's Athletic Hall of Fame in 1984.  She spent most of her educational career serving the students of the Fargo Public Schools as a teacher, counselor, and administrator at Central High and later North High.  Her active interests have included many outdoor activities and sports.

DR. TUCKER LEBIEN

Tucker Lebien

A 1966 graduate of North High, Tucker earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree from North Dakota State University, and recieved his Ph. D. in Medical Microbiology from the University of Nebraska in 1977.  His career in the field of leukemia resear h has resulted in the publication of over 140 articles in medical journals.  He currently serves as a professor and Deputy Director of the University of Minnesota Cancer Center.

BARRY MAYER

Barry Mayer

A 1967 graduate of North High, Barry excelled in football, basketball, and track, earning local and state honors in each.  Attending the University of Minnesota, he gained NCAA Academic All-American Football honors for each of three years.  Barry is active in project management with many major companies of the Bay Area of California.

A. ROBERT PEDERSON

Pederson

A Glenwood, MN native and graduate of Luther College in Iowa, Bob served Fargo's youth for 38 years.  His tenure at North High spanned 25 years, where he served as a teacher and chairman for the Science department.  In 1975 he was honored as the Outstanding Physical Science Teacher of North Dakota, and was the Fargo Public Schools Teacher of the Year in 1981-1982.  His service was a true love for the community's youth. 

JULIE SELBO

Julie Selbo

A 1970 graduate of North High, Jule's theater experience led to studies in theater at Southern Methodist University, MSU in Memphis and UNC at Chapel Hill.  During her professional career, Jule has written and produced over 50 hours of television, nearly all of which would be readily recognized and acclaimed for its quality.  Her efforts also include teaching of seminars and coaching of aspiring writers.

DIANE WORNER

Diane Worner

A 1980 graduate of North High, Diane was a member of three Championship teams in Basketball, Volleyball, and Track. She earned All-State honors in Basketball and was an All-Conference honoree in Basketball and Track.  While at Northern Colorado, Diane finished her playing career as the school's all-time scoring leader in basketball.  She is presently a Physical Education instructor and basketball coach in Colorado.
