2001 Inductees

After graduating from North High in 1968, where he was active in tennis, scouting, and was a delegate to ND Boys State, David matriculated to the Univ. of Minnesota. He received a Bachelor of Chemistry Degree in 1971; and then studied on a Fulbright Scholarship in Munich, Germany, before completing his Ph.D. in the biophysics of human serum lipoproteins in 1977 at the University of California at Berkeley. His early professional career took him to the U.S.S.R, the Nat'l. Institute of Health, and medical school as a Public Health Service Officer. While completing his residency at the Walter Reed Army Hospital, he became involved with AIDS research. That led him to the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, the U.S. Food and Drug Admin., and back to the Walter Reed Institute of Research. In 1999, David became Director of Laboratories at Capital Health Systems (NJ); and in the fall of 2001, he joined the Mercy Health System in Philadelphia, PA. as Chairman, Department of Pathology and Director of Laboratories.

A 1976 graduate of North High, Jay distinguished himself as a premier swimmer in the state and region. He earned 7 individual state championships, set 7 state records, and gained All-America Consideration in the 50 freestyle. In addition to his academics and swimming at North, he was active in Key Club and the Bicentennial Exchange Program.

Jay earned a B.S. Degree in Industrial Engineering from Iowa State University with Honors and Distinction in 1980. His swimming efforts earned him All-Big 8 and NCAA Qualifier 4 times during his collegiate career. His professional career has included working as an audio engineer/producer in his own recording studio, which led to multiple nominations as "Engineer of the Year" and "Producer of the Year". He has also served as a nuclear mechanical design engineer; and is presently a Team Leader and Project Engineer at Raytheon Missile Systems in Tucson, AZ.

Jay has continued his love of swimming through work with youth programs in the states of Minnesota, New Mexico, and Arizona, where his charges have enjoyed much the same levels of success as their mentor.

Brock graduated from North High in 1969, and attended St. Olaf College (MN), where he earned a BA Degree in Economics in 1973. He completed his Masters Degree in Hospital Administration in 1976, at the University of Minnesota. He complemented his academic pursuits with football and student government in both his high school and undergraduate college years. He was a member of the Student Council and Nat'l. Honor Society along with attendance at ND Boys State while attending North High.

His professional career has focused on meeting the healthcare needs of children. Following his administrative residency at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Boise, ID., Brock joined the staff and served in various capacities at United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. In 1983, he became President of Children's Hospital of St. Paul; and in 1994, he assumed his present position as CEO of Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Through Brock's leadership and progressive efforts, Children's has earned regional and national attention for its work in healthcare for children.

A 1972 graduate of North High, Julie served as Student Council President; and developed her interests and instincts for government and the legal process through her work with the school's creative and challenging staff. She earned a BA Degree in Political Science and Sociology from DePauw University (IN) in 1976. She continued her study at Indiana University, completing a Jurist Doctorate in 1979; and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Florida in 1984.

Julie has served on the teaching and/or administrative staffs at the Universities of Florida, North Dakota, and Wisconsin. While working in Wisconsin, she served with the Dept. of Public Instruction and held various positions within the School of Education at the University. She became Dean of the School of Education & Allied Professions at Miami (OH) University prior to achieving her present status as General Counsel for the National School Boards Association in Washington, DC. Julie has authored, or collaborated in the writing of more than 100 professional articles in the field of education law.
