2018 Inductees

A native of Moorhead, MN, and graduate of Moorhead HS, Sharon carried her long-time interest in the study of foreign languages to Jamestown (ND) College, where she earned an undergraduate degree with Majors in Spanish and French, along with a Minor in German. In the fall of 1968, she was hired by the Fargo Public Schools to teach classes in French and Spanish at South High.

Following a couple of years as a travelling teacher in the school district, Sharon became a full-time Spanish teacher at North High, along with an occasional French class as needed. In 1974, she left the classroom to become a full-time parent, returning to North High in the fall of 1984, where she remained until her retirement in 2004. In addition to her contributions in the classroom, she served as co-advisor of Club International, working with foreign exchange students as well as the regular student population who had a strong interest in the study of the many languages available at the school. In 2004, Sharon was recognized by the Student Council as “Teacher of the Year.”

After retirement, she proctored Advanced Placement Exams at North High; and has been an active partner with her husband as “pastor’s wife,” becoming involved in many associated activities.

A graduate of North High in 1986, his most public recognition as a student-athlete was as a committed and accomplished swimmer. David was a member of State Championship teams in 1984, 1985, and 1986; and earned 7 individual State Championship titles along with being a part of 6 relays that won State Titles. He was a part of several state, conference, and pool/school records during his career, and was a team co-captain his senior season.

David’s academic achievements were equally impressive, earning him several scholarships, including a Four-Year Army ROTC award. After earning an undergraduate degree at NDSU, he was awarded a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University; and then served 20 years in the Army. As an Army Ranger, he served in a variety of assignments, including command of an Airborne Rifle Company, Deputy Commander of a Task Force during the “Awakening” in Ramadi, Iraq, from 2005-07, as well as an Assistant Professor of Military & Strategic Studies at the U.S. Air Force Academy.

His lengthy list of awards includes the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation, Navy and USMC Commendation Medal, and many more.

A native of Crosby, ND, his academic and football achievements led to recruitment by Concordia (MN) College, where he enrolled in the fall of 1962. After a stellar football career, which included being a part of a National Championship team in 1964, Dave earned his BA degree in the spring of 1966; and he started his teaching and coaching career in Bottineau, ND. In addition to teaching, Dave coached football, hockey, and basketball there from 1966-69.

In the fall of 1969, Dave joined the Fargo North teaching and coaching staffs, where he stayed until his retirement in 2002. During his Spartan coaching career, Dave coached football, basketball, boys swimming, track, and junior high volleyball; and included in that tenure was being a part of State Championship coaching staffs in football, basketball, and swimming. Dave’s active role in the field of sport extended to umpiring Legion and amateur baseball for more than 20 years, and officiating basketball for more than 25 years. He was also a longtime member of the North Dakota High School Coaches’ Association.

Dave earned the NDHSCA Coach of the Year for Football in 1983; and has also been inducted into the Cobber Athletic Hall of Fame, and Minnesota Viking Murray Warmath Hall of Fame.

A graduate of North High in 1979, Steve was a 2-year starter and letter-winner in basketball in addition to earning letters in track & field, which was highlighted with an appearance and scoring performance at the State Meet. After leaving North, Steve studied at South Dakota State, where he earned All-American Honors as a javelin thrower, and a BS Degree in Physical Education in 1983. He completed additional studies toward a Master’s Degree at SE Missouri.

Steve’s impressive career as a throw’s coach includes stints at SE Missouri State, Yale, UTEP, Arizona State, Coordinator and National Coach for the Norwegian senior and junior throwing groups, Head throws coach for the Australian National Team and the Queensland Academy of Sport. He was named Associate Head Women’s Coach at Florida in 2007, and since 2010, has been the Associate Head Men’s and Women’s Head Coach there.

His legacy as a throws coach is clearly established within the sport of track and field; having been a part of 40 individual scorers and 13 team championships at the NCAA level, and 15 Olympic appearances by his athletes, including a gold medalist. As a Florida Gator coach, he has worked with 6 school record holders, and 54 athletes who have achieved All-America Honors.
