2019 Inductees

Amanda was a 1995 graduate of North High, representing an era when student athletes were multi-sport in nature; and who provides clear evidence that training and competing in a single activity wasn’t necessary to become successful. She was a 3 year letter-winner in Volleyball, earning All-EDC and All-State honors, was a part of 2 State Championships, was selected Miss Volleyball (ND), and school record-holder for service aces. As a two-year letter-winner in Basketball, she was part of a State Runner-up team; and she was a 3 year letter-winner in Track & Field, becoming a State Meet place-winner in the Shot Put, Discus, and Javelin. In addition, Amanda held the school records in the same, three events.

Following graduation from North, Amanda attended Concordia College in Moorhead, MN., earning a BA Degree in Elementary Education in 1999. In addition to pursuing her career choice, Amanda also competed in Volleyball and Track & Field. She married a fellow Cobber, student athlete, in the fall of 1999; and the next spring, they moved to Simla, CO, where she taught at Big Sandy School from 2000 to 2005. Her assignments were in various disciplines and grades; and she also served as an assistant coach with the Volleyball and Track & Field programs.

After starting a family in 2005, Amanda put her teaching on hold, to become a full-time mother. In 2006, she moved to Staples, MN, where she and her husband had two more children. In 2013, the family returned to Fargo, where Amanda has returned to teaching, as a substitute teacher.

Tom graduated from North High in 1987, where his primary interests were Hockey (which was a strong family tie) and pursuing a strong academic foundation, to support his career interest. The effort and energy he committed to those two things were rewarded in the form of a State Hockey Championship in 1986, and membership in the National Honor Society.

After leaving North High, Tom attended the University of North Dakota, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, in 1991. His successful study and background led to a position as a CPA with the Arthur Anderson & Co. firm in Minneapolis, MN.

In 1994, Tom joined American Crystal Sugar, as a Corporate Accountant. From that entry responsibility, he has since served as Vice President of Operations, Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer, followed by the position of Vice President of Agriculture and Administration. In March of 2016, Tom was elected to serve as the President and CEO of American Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, MN.

Joe graduated from North High in 1994, where he had earned All-EDC Honorable Mention in football in the fall of 1993, and played in the East-West Shrine game the following summer. He was also the wrestling team captain and voted Most Valuable wrestler for the 1993-94 season. Joe attended Valley City State University, where he was active in student government and was a member of the wrestling team. He earned a BS Degree in Physical Education in 1999, and started his teaching career at Madison Elementary in Fargo, where he taught until 2005.

In 2003, Joe completed an M.Ed. Degree in Physical Education, and in 2007, he earned a Ph.D. Degree in Wellness at NDSU, which led to opportunities for teaching at the Higher Ed level. Joe served as Instructor in the Dept. of Health, Nutrition, and Exercise Science at NDSU (2005-2007); and advanced in the same department, as Assistant Professor (2005-2013) and Associate Professor (2013- Present). He has distinguished himself through several direct and collegial publications and refereed lectures and presentations.

Joe’s professional and public contributions include serving on the Fargo Park Board, International Council for HPER and Sport/Dance, the Society of Health and PE Directors, as well as state and regional organizations associated with HPER and Dance.

Hebe was born and raised in St.Paul, MN; and following graduation from high school, she attended the University of Minnesota (Minneapolis), where she completed a BS Degree in French Education in 1974. In the fall of 1975, her career with the Fargo Public Schools began, with a part-time position in French, at North High School.

For the next 30 years, Hebe taught all levels of French (1-4), Spanish 1, and Foreign Language Exploration. Her assignments were primarily at North High and Ben Franklin MS, but also included South High, as student enrollment required. During her journey through the paths of foreign language teaching, Hebe earned a Master of Arts Degree from MSUM. That experience enhanced her work with advanced levels of instruction, and included the study of Spanish, Italian, and German.

While at North, she and her colleagues expanded the foreign language learning opportunities, which included travel to the French-speaking community of Winnipeg, the Festival of Nations event in St. Paul, in addition to travel abroad. Hebe was involved with the French Club, International Club, and Student Congress; each offering extended opportunities to work with students. She retired from the Fargo Schools in 2005.
